Latest Chromebook from Samsung features a slimline build and more computing power than ever before

Samsung has quietly released its latest Chromebook at CES 2016 – its most powerful yet portable device to date.

Weighing just 1.1kg and featuring a new design that apparently makes it easier to grip and carry around, the Chromebook 3 looks to target the increasingly popular educational and consumer markets.

Samsung says it will be available within the next few months, although the company has not yet revealed an exact date or any information on pricing just yet.

Slimline

samsung Chromebook_3_-_LeftFeaturing an 11.6in HD screen packing 1366×768 pixels and anti-glare protection the Chromebook 3 is just 0.7in thick, meaning it should fit easily into bags and suitcases of all sizes.

Inside, there’s an Intel Celeron N3050 processor and Intel HD GPU, with an option of either 2GB or 4GB RAM coupled with 16GB of storage, all backed up by a battery that Samsung says will last around 11 hours.

As for connections, there’s USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI and microSD ports included, meaning users can hook up a wide range of accessories to the device.

Made out of reinforced metal body, the Chromebook 3 comes with an ergonomic keyboard with curved caps on all the keys, and also features a 180-degree hinged display to make sharing content effortless.

“We’re seeing more and more people flocking to Chromebooks as families, students and other consumers seek out easy-to-use, highly portable and affordable laptops as resources for personal use, education and even work,” said Gary Riding, senior vice president, Mobile Computing at Samsung Electronics America.

“Samsung recognised that demand when we launched the first-ever Chromebook in 2011. We’re continuing to keep up with evolving consumer needs with this new iteration, which offers even more convenient features that solve consumers’ pain points, like all day battery life and fast charging capabilities.”

Samsung’s last Chromebook hit the UK in May 2014, arriving in both a 11.6in and 13.6 in models, although its not clear at the moment if a larger edition will come along this time.
