Will Windows 10 be more secure than previous versions? These security features should help

You have a trustworthy face

Say “hey” to Windows Hello, a biometrics soloution that turns your face into your password. And your finger will do the job, too. All you have to do is show your face or use your fingerprint to login to your devices running Windows 10. You’ll immediately be recognised and granted instant access. As Microsoft says: “Rest assured that the most secure authentication method is your presence.”

lockLockdown

With BYOD it’s easy for employee devices to go rogue, with increased potential for dodgy apps to be downloaded, putting company data at risk.

Microsoft has developed Device Guard for Windows 10 to provide organisations with the ability to lock down devices, enabling additional threat and malware resistance. Because malware is often inadvertently installed onto devices by users, Windows 10 addresses this threat by only allowing trusted apps, meaning apps that are signed using a Microsoft provided signing service, to be run on specially configured devices.

If an attacker manages to gain control of the Windows kernel, they’ll be much less likely to be able to run malicious executable code after the computer restarts because of how decisions are made about what can run and when.

Prevention is better than the cure

An increasing number of employee-owned devices being used for work brings means increasing risk of accidental data disclosure through apps and services that are outside of a company’s control like email, social media and public cloud.

Windows 10 includes a data loss prevention (DLP) solution that separates corporate and personal data and helps protect it using containment. We are building this capability into the platform itself and integrating it within the existing user experience to enable protection without the disruption frequently seen in other solutions.

There’s no need for users to switch modes or apps in order to protect corporate data, which means users can help keep data safe without altering their behaviour.
