TalkTalk Loses 50,000 Customers In Three Months
TalkTalk may have raised its profit forecasts but it has failed to stem the haemorrhaging of subscriber defections
TalkTalk has lost customers for the fifth successive quarter, falling further behind rivals BT and Sky.
Fifty thousand customers defected from TalkTalk in the three months leading up to December, the company has reported, bringing the total number of customers it has lost since November 2010 to 170,000. However the ISP’s share price rose by nine percent after it raised its profit forecast.
Mass defections
The defections see TalkTalk’s total number of subscribers drop to 4.08 million, affecting its plans to expand its customer base in the last few months of 2011.

The company, formed through the mergers of Tiscali, Pipex and Carphone Warehouse lost 25,000 subscribers to rival providers in the same quarter last year due to problems with migrating Tiscali customers onto its billing system .
It incorrectly billed around 62,000 Tiscali customers for services they never received andwas fined £3 million by Ofcom last August. Its customers were also found to be “the most likely to change providers” after it finished bottom of an Ofcom broadband customer survey.
Despite these setbacks, TalkTalk’s full year underlying earnings are expected to be between 18-19 percent of revenues, an increase from the previously expected 17-18 percent and an improvement on last year’s 15.6 percent margin.
Revenues increased by £1 million from the second quarter to £422 million, but still down by five percent from last year. However the business is becoming more profitable as the average revenue per user increased to £25.30 from £24.70 from the last quarter.
TalkTalk may attract customers who want a greater say in what their children view on the Internet after it announced yesterday that new users would have to make a decision whether or not to enforce parental controls before their broadband is activated.

What do you expect when all their services , and billing queeries, are answered all the time in delay, behind better run companies.
I have been waiting for a statement of my late sons A/c since May 2011 it has been paid for ,yet never received.at least 8 emails sent ,same amount phone calls.numerous excuses, still no statement.
Yes, they billed me for esentials dec and jan and they didn’t have me up and running until feb, they also threw in extra charges, they said i could cancel up to my go live date of feb2nd but i didn’t recieve my kit until the 3rd,also i did not recieve my monthly bill for 2 and 1/2 months so it would seem that they are deliberately being decietful, just not good enough!!!
These Bad ISP,s have been doing this for years ,i am glad that we are fighting back and going for the better Companys,i am with Virginmedia ,with no compliants todate
judder
Also, I would leave if they had not tied me into a contract.
They have a sharp practice of making customers pay for line rental one year at a time in advance to get the advertised lowest monthly line rental.
nothing wrong with talk talk signed up for another 18 months contract paid up front for line rental been with then for 10 years
Talktalk are an appalling company, I can’t believe they have any customers !
I have been with talktalk for several years and never had a problem with them!!
I have been with TalkTalk for nearly 10 years, from when they were home call.
I get free calls to 80 international countries, my ADSL2 max’s out at around 18mb, and costs less than £20 a month including line rental.
Have not had a problem with customer care, in fact they ring me every six months to see if I am happy.
can’t fault the service or the price
Talk Talk have billed us incorrectly every month since 2006 when we joined for free broadband which we have never had. The only way they agree to paying out a refund for being overcharged is for us to sign up to another agreement. They are by far the worse company we have ever had to deal with. Crooks through and through. Nothing but fake promises.
Let me get this right.
There are many many telecoms/BB providers in the UK yet you claim that TT have billed you incorrectly for 6 years and you are still with them. Are you a real complainer or just flapping your gums?
I’ve been with them talk talk for two years now and have just subscribed to their fibre offering Im getting fantastic speed four times faster almost five times faster than before.
Bring it on
Satisfied customer they should have me stuffed(fawlty towers reference)
they’ve billed me a couple of times to phone numbers I haven’t rang in the past but seeing as they are to other talk talk numbers I was not charged so no bother.
Enough said and done

sevice is absolutely appalling, alesson four a lot of people do u homework and dont get tied in to contracts if possible
I too have just left TalkTalk yesterday. They totally messed up my migration to Fibre. Forgot to switch my line from ADSL to vDSL. The customer service is terrible; I was passed me between departments like a hot potato. Eventually I was asked to wait and speak to the customer loyalty department (?) but I hung up after waiting for 10 minutes. Shocking company, shocking service. Bye bye TalkTalk. Good riddance.
i cant wait for my contract to end and walk away from this useless lot
I was with tiscali for 3 years and when i was forced to move to talk talk i had nothing but problems the speed was bad and on top of that coming to the end of the month the would just turn the internet off for anything from 1 hour to a day, i have moved to sky and the speed is alot better and the internet stays on all month amazing
I have just recently left TalkTalk after having taken them to the Ombudsman. What a horrible Company they are! There should be a public enquiry into this Company as their financial records must be in an awful state. As a previous comment states:-
Bye Bye TalkTalk. Good riddance
I’ve had a 3 month battle trying to get my speed put back to the previous 2.5mbps. At the beginning of December our speed dropped to between .2 and .9mbps. After numerous half to one hour phone calls over the period from then until a few days ago we were continuously told that our line would only support up to 1mbps even though we told them we had been getting at least 2.5 for the last 2-3 years. The other day they suddenly decided to adjust the settings and we are now getting between 1.8 and 2.4. I will be looking to join the 50,000 as soon as possible. I couldn’t stand to go through all that again. The time, the money and the stress are not worth any savings you make on their tariffs. Over several days last week we were told they were doing line tests only to find there was no line fault. The next time on each occasion when I phoned following these line tests I was told there was no record of a line test. I’m shutting up now, just getting wound up again. My advice: don’t even bother phoning if you have a problem, just go somewhere else.
Just move to Sky Broadband, Free if your a light Broadband user & £7.50 for unlimited ADSL2+ usage. Not traffic managed either.
Ive been with Talk Talk, Orange, Virgin media & Sky & Sky are by far the most reliable and competitive.
reading these comments i have only one thing to say join sky and you won’t regret it they are 100% been with sky since day 1 no problems at all , give SKY a try you’ve nothing to lose
sky rocks i moved a few years to them an have no problems at all
never had a problem, well yet. But do you really think they will take any notice of what you think. The answers no!!
Talk Talk have had problems since 2007 ………. Useless at customer services and continually charging when you leave and totally incompetant! Good …… perhaps they will listen to customers properley for the first time they are so ARROGANT!!
After having suffered a life threatening ilness on my release from hospital i was subsequently hounded by “Talk Talk” for payment which i simply did not owe them nontheless it was only resolved after Trading Standards became involved.
I would not entertain this company ever again, Goodbye and good riddance.
we tried to cancle when moving in sep, were told they would cut the price from 19.99 to 10.31 per month if they could be our provider at the new address, we agreed and low and behold when the first bill came 29.99, rang to cancle several times got told different email address or site or phone number to cancle. every time we tried they failed to acknowledge or said we did it wrong or hadn’t given enough info. this went on for 3 month (still taking 29.99) in the end i had to cancle the direct debit and left them to it. they are currently hounding us for payment, they will get nothing. dreadful service, completely without integretity the whole sorry shower. see me in court i say, the only call they can have which says i agreed to a contract will also confirm they should have been charging a third of what they did. BEWARE!!
I left under tiscali, who were quite simply the worst company I have ever ever dealt with! I was billed continually for a year for a service I never received. Even after repeated emails, letters and phone calls. Truly appaling service!
It’s no surprise to me then to hear nothing has changed.
Under Tiscali I was reasonably happy. The problems started immediately TT took over. Their service was simply truly shocking and they have never heard of customer satisfaction and do not appreciate what that means. Before the migration to thier system I was offered 2 months free for being a loyal customer. In fact this was because they knew that the service would be so bad they had to act before the brown stuff flew. Too late. I was without any service for weeks & nobody answered my calls or replied to mails. I am surprised that they still have a licence to trade. 170,000 ex customers tells it’s own factual story.
As for an agreement or contract, I never signed anything in the 7 years I was with Tiscali and then TT. Consequently I walked away after giving them 1 months notice.
We just joined talk2 last year in August and we`ve had month after month of annoying`white noise`(continous hissing sound) leaving us without any service(incoming or outgoing calls)for days on end. I really don`t know if they`re doing this as a habit or what…..???? Can`t wait for our contract to expire this August. We`e not very pleased.
I was with tiscali for 2 years and didnt receive a bill, so i had free internet for 2 years. talk Talk took over and billed me for £600 and i just laughed at them.
Talk Talk are by far the worst company ever to exist we cancelled them after our three month trial if you like never got any response from them was with sky for over a year then they wrote to us saying we owed them 462.00 and continued to ask for this money for the nexy two years can’t believe they are still in operation the goverment needs to step in there and close them down before they tip someone over the edge
We finally got out of their contract. They forgot to bill us for months despite us contacting them many times – they kept saying we are sorry and don`t worry ,then sent us a hefty bill requiring it to be paid immediately.
The broadband was rubbish – really slow and the phone didn`t work properly for the first few weeks despite us complaining.
My opinion – DO NOT JOIN
I’m not surprised, my daughter has just left them after 14, yes, 14 phone calls to try to sort out a billing problem! They have no idea what the bill actually comes to or even what they are billing her for. Useless company with even more useless customer services! Every person me or my daughter spoke too had no idea what they were talking about. One person didn’t even realise we were talking about a phone bill, she thought we were complaining about a computer problem! Mind boggling incompetence from everyone at the company. Over charging by £45 is, in my opinion, theft in anyone’s language!!
I was with tt and they messed me about so I changed to Utility Warehouse and they have been brilliant. They will even pay for you to get out of your contract with tt. If anyone wants to know more then contact me on Facebook – Amanda J Craggs
Personally I found the problem with Talktalk was the appalling mess that is their various telephone support services. The huge number of telephone calls that are necessary to sort out even the smallest problem. I have to sound racist, but provided you get someone in the UK you are fine, but anywhere else and you WILL be led a right song and dance by a bunch of people who are impossibly difficult to communicate with and most of whom don’t seem to know their job.
Having said that, Virgin are even worse.
My trouble with these people started 2006 when they blocked ports which I needed for online gaming for 3 accounts costing in access of £25 a month + BB charge got rid after a load of hastle swithed to Nidram.
Only to be bought out with talktalk in 2010 as soon as I got the memo I swithched to SKY but as per normal talktalk still took money out my account for 3 month after I joined sky had to get rid of card to stop them scum thats all I can say.
Nightmare Company !!!! – 6 new routers in 12 months their technical helpdesk dont have a clue whats going on or how to resolve the problem also problems with translation worst company i have ever dealt with – STAY CLEAR
If you have any complaints aboutTalk Talk send them to the Main Man here is the link dunstonec@cpw.co.uk
I’m not in the least surprised. I stuck with them for years, through not wanting to face the agony which I knew would be involved in trying to move but, in the event, I couldn’t stand their inefficiency and poor customer service any longer. I ended my contract in November 2011 and they still sent me a bill (for £0.00)! in February. Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless!!! I’m now with Plusnet and have no complaints whatsoever. Wish I’d moved from them years ago.
im guilty of putting up with bad service because its the cheapest offer available (that i no of). every month my bill is wrong, they set me up and charged me for the wrong package,i had no internet for 2 mnths and i kept being passed from pillar to post untill it was sorted out and i was still charged internet for which i had not and more importantly could not use!! would love to leave them but i wouldnt get a package that suits me for the same price.
its not surprising that the numbers left i was with tiscali an the fair useage policy suck big time all i did was online game an they screwed my bandwith so i couldnt play after 3pm an i belive talktalk have taken it over aswell
I have been with TalkTalk for years now..never had any problems with them…the few queries I have had with them were handled expertly and quickly…
Ive never been with such an abismal company half the time i was being cut off before recieving a bill, then the cheek of it they charge you for evry phone call you make to them when you phone you cant understand them, ive recently changed to another supplier and they now say i owe 144.oo contract fee ur aving a laugh see wot trading standards say is it, anyone thinking of joining talk talk PLZ STAY CLEAR
Talk Talk Mobile started off as a great company when it was owned by Car phone warehouse ,I was initially very impressed with the level of service and the cost, until it became time for me to cancel my contract ,due to moving abroad for three months ,It actually took me a year to cancel and in the meantime I was billed each month and despite going into Car phone warehouse regularly to complain ,and the staff in the shop trying their best to sort the problem out ,it just wouldn’t go away ,I was even threatened with court action and the amount they said I owed escalated from around £15 to well over £i00 ,In the end I went to the only Talk Talk shop there was which was in London the staff promised to sort out the problem and they put me in touch with Head office but even they struggled to stop the bills arriving .I asked repeatedly to be put in touch withe the MD but they refused to give me his name or contact details .Eventually they offered me a paltry sum of £50 which was take it or basically get lost .Don’t use talk Talk!!!!
I had an account with Pipex (one of the best ISPs ever) they also hosted my domain and ancillery features. Then Talk Talk took over, the shut down my domain, without telling me, apparently they didn’t offer this service any more, then they started billing me each month for a non existant service, which had actually allready been paid a year up front. Next my ADSL2+ service got slower, they had moved me to a talk talk connection that only supported basic ADSL, still charged me for the premium service. I complained for months getting the total run around, so eventually I traked down the personal e-mails of the MD and the Chairman, I sent them the trail of e-mails, and cancelled all contracts with Talk Talk. they kept denying I had cancelled the contract, were as akward as possible in the transfer to BT, eventually thier MD stepped in again and resolved it, and they paid me a small token as compensation. Basically they have a top management that seems to care, they then either employ or contact others to do the work that don’t care at all. I am now with BT Infinity for ISP and JustHost manage my domain etc. both are providing an excellant service.
I am really pleased it is sinking as I left them last year after many happy years with Tiscali.
I was lied to, cheated, and promised compensation from all the hassle, but do you know what I put the cancellation date in my diary and worked towards it with happiness.
Awful service, awful company, call centres should be just closed.
We do not appreciate being lied to, and when I gave you the opportunity to put it right, you just abused me.
A warm welcome back to BT, but it was like Helsinki syndrome, I was abused less and I like it
I’ve had talktalk since 2007 and never had a problem!
I was without internet commection for 35 days. Talk Talk were contacted twice a day for the whole period. I was spoken to from South Africa India the Philipines etc and told my problem was not Talk Talk but Tiscali who I was originally with. They gave me a number to ring for Tiscali and low and behold it took me straight back to Talk Talk.
In the end I stopped everything and joined Sky. It took another 5 days to connect to them and still no joy so they sent out BT Openreach who found a wire broken 343 metres from my house. Job sorted. Why couldn’t Talk Talk do that. No wonder people are leaving them.
I was billed by TalkTalk at £40pm (should have been £18pm) for 9/10 months as a ‘floating’ (no longer on a tariff) customer because of a computer error (like fuque).
Anyhow biggest problem was getting to talk to someone in the UK who could authorize repayment and understand the problem well enough to appreciate that they were totally at fault (this is a long story of error after error on their part and it costing me money that I had to fight to get back). So to help out anyone else who has/is being ripped off by them here is a number of a genuine UK based fella called Martin Horrocks of the customer loyalty dept. he’s gonna love me.
TalkTalk UK Helpline direct number, 01787:884331. Andy Horrocks. Sometimes he doesn’t answer for ages, keep at it.
This is real and it took me ages and a request to terminate services before I got this number, nice ehh!! Anyhow hope someone finds this usefull
I hope they fold…
I signed up to them after a telephone call out of the blue (First big mistake) but during the call I swear they said If I wasn’t happy with anything during the first month I could cancel and the whole trial would have been free! Little was this true and I didn’t have a recording of this call! The only reason I was going to give it a try was the free trial. The welcome pack was addressed to a completely different person when I phoned them they told me I couldn’t change the name over the phone (despite signing up over the phone) I should have cancelled there and then. The equipment arrived , my husband who has a degree in IT set it up and every day at 5pm (School children homework time)we couldn’t log on. Called centre they went throguh usual rigmarole of unplug and re wire etc no change. I got so fed up that I just cancelled within my free period. They then said connection wasn’t free and I had telephonecalls to pay for. We then started a long argument over payments and free trial which they denied. They kept adding interst to our incorrect bills which we refused to pay and they then got the bailliffs involved!! My husband was very unhappy and stressed as neither of us have ever had any debt and we are both in our late 40′s. Eventually I apparently spoke to the top man! and we came to an agreement on us payign for services used (calls )as the broadband very infrequently worked. NEVER EVER AGIN WOULD I TOUCH TALK TALK.
Agree about the sharp practice of asking for 12 months line rental to get the advertised rate (which I did not know before I signed up).
My experience is that this is a dreadful company that lacks any depth of morality or quality in area of customer service – insanely unbelievable waiting times …20 or 25 mins quite common and then passed back to another department for similar hang-on etc.. all designed for them to charge unsuspecting “customers” !!
For those that have no problems to date …good luck because when things go wrong you will get very frustrated by their inept customer service, their rip-off culture …..
i made the mistake of choosing talk talk …but now very happy after they gave me no option but to walk walk
Excellent news, They deserve to go broke.
They were the worst company in my 60 years of life I have ever EVER dealt with, a truly bad service all round.
I was caught out by TalkTalk a few years ago, as i was at a low ebb after my husband passed away. They were very rude to me when i said i hardly used my home phone and that the bill was way over £300 i had someone check the bill for me, after i had checked it, and most of the numbers were abroad and ive no one abroad or to these Quiz programmes on Tv, i then went to BT but got a better deal with Sky, and im with them for my Broadband, Tv and phone. Sky are always polite on the phone `if` ive ever had a query and then it is dealt with straight away. I wish i had never signed up with TalkTalk, but now im glad that im with Sky. Had Sky Tv sine 1989 but had sky talk and braodband since 2010, and am very happy with it.
All you Talk Talk customers come and join Sky, you wont regret it.
This dreadful company almost wrecked my broadband and phone connections with BT after I just rang to enquire about their advertised services. Somehow they managed to turn my enquiry only into a firm order and had the audacity to contact BT and cancel my contract with them. After that, I found that they had by some very illegal means obtained my bank account and asked for a direct debit to be set up. I had NEVER given them any details and how they obtained this information I cannot imagine as it was not an account I use for any payments. I reported them to the Ombudsman and other parties and eventually managed to get this completely fictitious “order” cancelled. A few days after that final episode I received their router with an accompanying letter welcoming me to their “service”. I was speechless and just took the whole package back to the post office marked “not for this address”. I have heard nothing since but if they go to those lengths to obtain customers, I am amazed they have any left at all. They were exposed for what they are on the list of broadband providers. How did they get my bank account details?? It was a very worrying episode.
This happened to my father, he got billed for things he hadn’t had and when he changed provider he was still getting billed. He had loads of problems.
About time chickens came home to roost! An arrogant company with no idea of what customer care is. I am surprised that they have 4 million customers? Is this correct, surely not? This is an awful company that would not responded to queries about their billing system back in the early days(2006?), but kept on collecting direct debits. 6 months in a row of unreliable bills,I had enough problems and left. Its a dead brand in my world and I am happy that other people are leaving too.
I’ve had service from them since they took over from C&W (over 12 years ago), and OneTel, yes I’ve had a few issues and one took alot of phone calls to overseas and then one phone call to London to get it fixed. BUT———– overall very happy with service and cost, monthly bill (24 hr free phone calls including overseas and broadband) are less than £13/month with very few service issues and NO billing issues caused by them. The only billing issues I had was when I transferred banks but that was quickly sorted. only complaint: call centre needs to move back here or better training to allow them to deviate from the script to better resolve a problem
I am glad this company is finally being caught out with their devilish ways. They tried to bill me with calls to a friend who was on holiday in Florida at the time. They are the most arrogant, ignorant company ever to trade business who think we are all a load of dumbo’s.
We have never had any great debt apart from our mortgage in our lives. Our motto was “If we can’t afford it we go without”
They sent me threatening letters constantly but I wasn’t going to be brow beaten by this company.
I did not tell my husband as I did not want to worry him unnecessarily as he would have paid it without question, I knew I had done no wrong. They should all be sent to jail and the keys thrown away without a doubt!!!!!!!
Talk Talk are a bunch of arrogant bams. One of their pushy salespeople used to phone at least twice aa week to try and change us from BT to them. Would not take no for an answer. So we got a caller display compatible phone and no longer answer when the number doen`t come up. Should have got caller display years ago.

OFCOM are the source of these problems. If OFCOM outlawed the ability of providers to enforce the contractual obligation to stay with stay with any provider, even though the service provider was providing poor service, then, you would have far more ‘churn’ (leaving one provider for another) and customer numbers would more clearly reflect quality of service. It has always seemed odd to me that any provider can give appalling service, yet, customers are forced to keep spending with them for long periods of time. Fining providers for offences doesn’t do anything for customers at all although I do admit, it gives OFCOM bags of spare money. Clearly, the punishment is certainly not appropriate if a business can get £e422 millions and has to pay a £3 million fine does it? Not rocket science. On the other hand if people could leave at 48 hours notice!!!!
Never had a problem. Customer Services helpful, Broadband speed reliable and fast. Much prefer them to BT who are obviously desperate for customers as they ring me about twice a week, “Please come back.”
Very satisfied with Talk Talk: customer services good, broadband reliable, billing ok.
Much better than BT who desperately try to get me back, telephoning at least twice a week. How pathetic.
It took over three hours of phone time spread over 4 calls to cancel my broadband after I moved house. I had threatening letters from them and only when I threatened to go to OFCOM with a dossier of incorrect bills and letters did I magically get disconnected. It took FIVE months. My partner had similar a year earlier and ended up paying just to get the issue closed and her line released. I LOATH these guys I HOPE they go bust.
Have had our business line and broadband with TalkTalk for over a year now. No problems. Very good service. Installed when they said they would, within 2 weeks of ordering, which was 4 weeks earlier than BT could offer. They also gave me the number when I ordered the line. BT said they could not give me the number until the line was installed, which was useless, considering I needed to get publicity material for a new company printed for distribution.
My mother has been with TT for 4 years. No problems. Very good service. Transferred from BT exactly on schedule. very good BB speed, and no faults or problems in since install.
I rate them very highly, and would happily put more business with them.
i think it is brill i,ve been with them 8 month now and add no trouble they are deffo cheaper n virgin which are rip off i would not change talk talk for other company
i was with tiscali for many happy years but as soon as tt took over it was chaos,3 times they took me offline for between 7 and ten days with no explanation,i gave them three warnings by email and on the phone to sort it out but they failed and even denied that they had heard from me,i am sure their asian telephone operstors are told to just pass you from dept to dept to rack up the phone charges.if you have a contract just cancel your dd etc but at the same time cancel any debit or credit card that they have as they will continue to take money from your account.they are so incompetent that even though i have been with sky for about 3 years now i am still online with tt and they are still sending bills!!!!!!!.
Glad I`m rid of them.
My broadband was so slow.
The bills were inaccurate and the customer service centres (when they eventually answered) were incomprehensible.
The change when you phoned as a potential new customer was very different.
TalkTalk’s “fair usage” policy is a complete joke if you ever watch anything online or play any games. Plus, their speeds are consistently hopeless.
I cannot understand how TT continue to trade or even advertise. Several years back I bought a computer for home not having needed one before. I went with their advertising for phone and broadband, cancelling my phone with BT. But I never got the service at all. Despite numerous emails (from my busines computer), letters and phone calls nothing happened. I was billed before I got the service for installation!! Taking advice from my solicitor employers I sent them a registered letter saying they were in breach of contract for not providing the service, gave them 7 days to respond, received no response. The direct debit was cancelled, I sent the equipment back to them, and thankfully BT took me straight back without any charge as I had been a BY customer for many years. If you look on complaints forums there are probably thousands upon thousands of complaints about this company and yet they still advertise wonderful customer service etc etc. What a joke. If anyone mentions TT to me now I just smile and say “no way”. They should be banned from doing anything until they have sorted out their customers’ complaints. If you could sue for stress they would be bankrupt by now. I contracted with PLUSNET after a friend’s recommendation and they have been fantastic – absolutely the best.
Talk Talk habitually charge customers for services they have not received. A few such cases could be errors; beyond that, we have to conclude it is a deliberate policy, especially as they refuse to correct the errors once they are pointed out to them. They should never have been let off with such a small fine (considering the number of people they ripped off). Complaints about Talk Talk have flooded Ofcom for a couple of years now, to the extent that they cannot effectively do their job.
This has been going on for years. Back in 2008 Ontel was another member of the group. I had to take TT / Onetel / CFW to the ombudsman to sort out the mess they made of my broadband supply and the billing. I could never get them to properly understand the problems despite numerous letters and phone calls or admit there was anything wrong. In the end the ombudsman found in my favour and awarded me a full refund and compensation. I’ve been with BT ever since.
I have never had such poor service as when i was with walk walk!!! They are the worst company i have EVER EVER dealt with. Their indian call centres are useless and incompetant.Even the simplest faults are a chore to explain to these numb skulls. They are only good when things work. Please do yourself a favour and avoid like the plague.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer company! I was with their commercial arm Opal for a couple of years, when it moved from Talk Talk to Opal they changed all the contracts so you could only leave the contract at the anniversary, even after you had done your initial contract time with them – in my case 18 months – if you wanted to leave at any other time you had to pay the remaining years costs cost me £100s I’ll never ever use them ever again if they are the last telecoms company on planet earth and there were no carrier pigeons left.
Great service for me over many years. Broadband speeds are normally down to the last mile which is BT so comments here about speed likely to be irrelevant. That said Virgin are the worst. They advertise a fast service with great last mile and hopeless backbone.
Not surprised, they are very aggressive via telesales.
I had to be very blunt and rude to stop them ringing my house phone every single day at the same time for weeks.
I was with One Tel, Talk Talk’s sister company. One day on leaving ASDA, I was touted by Talk Talk and after listening to the blurb I thought it was a good move to transfer.
How wrong I was.
I decided to go back to BT but in my opinion the Ombudsman should look more at contractual obligations, focus on guarantees around broadband speeds.
Currently the BB provider can say you can experience speeds of up to 20 meg and in reality your checks say 8-9 meg and the BB supplier cannot be reproached.
It’s a mine field which could be made less tricky by the Ombudsman getting the BB suppliers to put contracts in plain, simple English.
Get rid of the overseas help desks and ensure one speaks to a white Englishman who will understand your plight, without having to waste hours on the telephone.
This is one of the worst and most immoral companies that iv’e ever had to deal with. In 2008 my mum passed away and I contacted TT to cancel her contract and pay any final bill. As the months went by I recieved more letters billing me personally (I was my mothers executor), for her monthly contract bills. I rang repeatedly explained that my mother was deceased and that all phones had been removed and that her house was vacant and up for sale. I was passed around various Indian call centres and finally informed that I would still have to pay for months of contract as TT had not viewed my mothers DEATH CERTIFICATE.
I dug around the internet to find directors of TT and sent them a filthy letter pointing out that trying to get money from deceased customers is sickening and hoped that when their family members die that they will be put through the same disgusting charade as myself. Eventually one of their senior exec’s paid off my bill from his dept.
These people are crooks …… short and simple
Well I’ve got nothing but praise for TalkTalk. Not only did they provide me with fast broadband – BT said it could not do so despite me living in central London (! go figure !) but they have always dealt with my queries quickly and effectively.
I’ve been with them for three years and my bills are getting cheaper, not more expensive. As far as I am concerned, Talk Talk is great.
I’ve been with Talktalk for years and everything has been ok most of the time. Whenever there has been a problem it has been a ightmare to resolve. Multiple call centres in different countries who don’t seem to talk to each other being the main issue.
Thing is – we use their free European and Australian 24 hour calls. Who else offers anything close?
talktalk are without a doubt the worst broadband provider i have ever used pure crap !
I am not surprised TalkTalk are losing customers if the high powered aggresive salesman who tried for 5 minutes to get me to change from BT are an example of their sales staff !!!
Im not suprised, had a problem some months ago, with phone line, costing me a substantial ammount of money on my mobile, 1 CALL consisted of speaking to 5 different persons,2 of whom I had great difficulty in understanding, and with breaks in between (transferring calls) only for the same conversation and (lack) of action with the next individuial 35 minutes in total. Eventually some sort of service was restored, but with very depleted download and upload speeds after 5 days, no explanation what so ever, and still after repeated attempts with phone calls etc to get my broadband service up to scratch nothing is happening, all corrispondence seems to be falling on deaf ears in their call centres,
I still have nightmares about crowd.Stay well clear.Thi bunch will test your will to live
We are a charity and sign up for talktalk phone and broadband, it was a little cheaper than BT. I told them at the start that there might be a risk that we may move building within the first year and I was told its free to do a line move if its on the same exchange. We moved building within the first could of month. the new building is on the same exchange. and the charity got build £79 plus VAT. this is allot of money to a charity. I would not go with talk talk again. they tell you what you want to hear on the phone before signing up. once in can not get out. I wish I paid that extra £1 and gone with BT. so I’m not surprised they have lost so many customers.
TT have hijacked my number! Some time ago without explanation TT installed new servers in the. Local BT exchange (I assume), and moved all their customers on to it. Ok if that’s what is required ,fine. But now if anyone wants to leave them they hold you to ransom with the “we own your tel.number’ and having had it for 30 years, obviously I don’t want to lose it. So I sit here effective locked in! Very frustrating and a sharp practice bordering on illegal. As I would leave if it were simple! I hope Ofcom read all this!
