I am a college student in Canada that has been a resident of Second Life for the last 2 years, and I believe that it can be used for corporate purposes. Companies such as Intel, AMD and IBM have created areas on Second Life, and I myself was hired by my college to do a short training session to teach faculty members Second Life operations. If used properly, the program has infinite uses, including those for corporate gains

Nick, I think you might have read your notes too quickly particularly with respect to your membership to the Environment Audit Committee which "scrutinises the effectiveness of the Government?s policy towards the environment". Not only will this save money but have a positive impact on carbon emissions. Bear in mind that, although the current numbers of businesses and citizens in virtual worlds is relatively small, the numbers will increase and surely it is better to test the use of virtual worlds within a government process on a small community before repeating previous mistakes of trying impose a new IT project on a national scale. Could this be a sign that the government machine is learning a useful lesson for a change?I look forward to seeing your avatar canvassing in a virtual world.

My company uses SecondLife for virtual conferencing and training. People enjoy the "virtual" experience and return anytime there is a session scheduled.
