…is that Romania is one of the poorest European countries. They definitely NEED the money for basic infrastructure. Someone should investigate whether this could be reported as abuse of EU funds.

It’s sad that instead of supporting competition and growth in our IT economy the Romania government is giving free money to Microsoft (especially now with the global economic crisis).

I wish that a big company such as Red Hat or IBM would sue our government for these kind of practices (as they did with the Swiss government).

Money will change hands and all involved will be happy. Nothing new, and certainly no change in the near future of at least one generation of Romanians.

The EU reacts robustly to complaints of construction procurement routes that don’t meet cross-border criteria for open tendering. Some obvious questions need to be asked about repeated reports of ‘negotiated’ national and regional IT contracts of such size and importance. It is to be hoped that the EU will be quick to investigate.
