Potential licensing gotchas and Ballmer’s greedy and arrogant attitude is precisely why I uninstalled Windows from my PC five years ago and switched to Linux. I’m currently running Linux Mint 8 at home and I LOVE IT!

Downlost Postgres. For any purpose I can imagine, it’s every bit as stable and usable as MS SQL Server, at ZERO cost!

It works well with multi-core systems, it’s replication/failover capabilities are excellent. Who wants anything else?

Seems to me that playing the price card here is a bad move for MS, since the same argument can be strongly made for Linux.
