Google dominates in search due to its superior algorithms, which translate into better search experience for users, as opposed to Microsoft's dominance in certain other fields, which seems to be rather due to lock-in effects and the prowess of the firm's legal department. Not a hint of this shines through in Mr Boulton's article, which certainly overstates Microsoft's share of the search engine market in the United States ; acccording to StatCounter (http://preview.tinyurl.com/yasvlzg ), Google enjoy's a share of more than 80 %, while Bing and Yahoo both hover around 9 % each. And why, may I ask, does Mr Boulton describe the US the DOJ's conviction (actually, it was the courts, not the DOJ, that convicted Microsoft of patently obvious crimes) of Microsoft for antitrust violations as «infamous» ? What was indeed infamous was the change in attitude of the DOJ toward Microsoft's violations after George Walker Bush came to power....

Windows dominated market because of Microsoft's political push, not on technology merits (remember how it fought the much better BeOS? Remember who stood behind Caldera against Linux?).
On the other side, Google offers a better product. Remember the difference it made in the dark days of Yahoo search?

MS is just jealous, they do not want anyone in any other computer related field to have success or a monopoly. MS has a monopoly and is abusive when it comes to Windows and Office. What is next EU complaints that IBM sells too many mainframes? Apple sells too many iPods or iPhones?

Give me a break MS, cry me a river.
