Bigger brother to former Xperia Z3 flagship packs in Snapdragon 810, PS4 RemotePlay and a 20MP camera

Sony has revealed its most powerful smartphone yet as it looks to keep pace with the increasingly frantic smartphone market.

Acting as a supercharged version of the Xperia Z3, Sony’s new device features a 20MP camera, PlayStation 4 gaming technology and two-day battery life along with high-powered hardware that should help it take on most of the other premium devices currently on the market.

At the heart of the Xperia Z3+ is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor, offering a significant boost to its older brother, which features the Snapdragon 801, meaning it provides superfast processing speeds and what Sony says is up to two days of battery life.

This means there’s also support for LTE Cat.6 networks, meaning it can provide network speeds of up to 300Mbps, along with 3GB of RAM and Android Lollipop 5.0.

In terms of cameras, there’s a 20.7MP rear lens featuring HDR capability, 4K video capture and playback, and ISO12800 sensitivity and large 1/ 2.3 image sensor to ensure your pictures always turn out great, even in low light. This is joined by a 5MP front lens with full HD 1080p which is ideal for video chat and capturing high-quality selfies.

Weighing just 144g and measuring 6.9mm wide, the Xperia Z3+ is certified IP65/68 waterproof (up to 1.5m) and dustproof, meaning it should stand up to holiday trips or dips in the pool.

The device uses the same 5.2in IPS LCD 1080p display as the original Z3, but does feature capless USB ports, making it easier and more convenient to charge.

And it’s not just a phone, as thanks to Sony’s PS4 Remote Play function the Xperia Z3+ can be used as a portable screen for your console, simply by connecting to Wi-Fi and a DualShock wireless controller.

There is no news yet on price, but the Xperia Z3+ will be available from next month in four colour schemes, and in either single SIM or dual-SIM editions.
