IFA 2015: Microsoft’s Continuum feature means that you’ll be able to take your work with you wherever you go
Acer has launched a new smartphone that will double as a substitute PC thanks to the power of the cloud.
Described by the company as a ‘PC Phone’, the Acer Jade Primo takes advantage of the Continuum feature included in Microsoft’s mobile version of Windows 10 to let users seamlessly work and play without needing to switch between devices.
The 5.5in device will even ship with a dock, keyboard, and wireless mouse as Acer looks to take mobile working to its maximum.
On the go
Asides from being a super-flexible work device, the Jade Primo also features some powerful hardware, supported by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, and there’s also a 21MP rear camera with a dual-LED flash and an 8MP front lens.
There’s no news on official pricing or launch date yet, but we’ll be keen to see how it fares in the real world.
Elsewhere, Acer also announced five new mid-range Android smartphones and one other running Windows 10 Mobile as it looks to shore up its Liquid mobile device family.
On the top of the Android side, there is the Liquid Z630, a 5.5in device powered by a 64-bit, quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory and an impressive 4,000mAh battery. It will also be available in a boosted Z630S model with boosted RAM and storage as well as an octa-core processor.
There is also the Liquid Z530, described as the ‘perfect selfie smartphone’ thanks to its 84 degree wide-angle front facing 8MP selfie lens, and the Liquid Z330 and Z320 devices, which will cost less than £100 on their release and are also available in Windows 10 mode in the M330 and M320 editions (pictured above).
“There is a movement among smartphone users at all levels towards using their handsets as digital content and entertainment devices,” noted ST Liew, president of Acer’s smart products business group. “We focused on bringing these attributes to the forefront in our new models. Enhanced sound, camera and features along with Acer’s easy to use UI makes these models ideal for anyone looking for a first smartphone, or upgrade from a basic model for a superb media experience.”
