Dell has refreshed its XPS 13 ultraportable laptop line, bringing in Intel’s latest 7th generation processor, a boost in battery, and a rose gold colour option that’s currently in vogue in the gadget world.

The XPS 13, which has been criticality acclaimed for its svelte design and solid specifications, makes use of Intel Kaby Lake processors that can be specified from the Core i3-7100U to the more powerful Core i5-7200U or Core i7-7500U CPUs. Graphics for the laptop come courtesy of Intel’s HD Graphics 650.

Alongside the new chips is up to 16GB of RAM and storage ranges from 128GB to 1TB of SSD flash storage.

Road warrior

dell-xps-13While Dell claims the XPS 13 is the smallest laptop with a 13in display in the world, sporting a 9.15mm chassis, it still manages to squeeze a decent amount of life out of its battery. Dell estimated the laptop will run on battery power alone for 13 hours if tasks are kept to video and web browsing.

Dell’s InfinityEdge screen found on the XPS 13 comes in either full HD 1080p resolution or a Quad HD+ touch screen; with the former Dell reckons 22 hours of battery life is possible from the XPS 13 though that figure is reduced to 13 hours once the higher resolution display is specified.

Other than the additional colour options and beefier innards, the XPS 13 has not changed much compared to its predecessor; it still sports machined aluminium, carbon fibre and Gorilla Glass on its body to give it a high-end look and feel.

For people who want support as well as an ultraportable with solid performance, Dell is offering 24 hour, seven days a week proactive automated support to give customers access to technicians.

Dell has yet to reveal any UK release dates, but on the other side of the Atlantic, the XPS 13 will go on sale from 4 October, starting at $799.

The laptop market is getting ever more competitive so some companies are looking to offer more unique features to stand out from the crowd, like HP’s EliteBook 1040 which can be specified with a Sure View display to stop people from snooping on the display.
