New flash and software-defined options targeted at small and medium businesses

Hot on the heels of buying up computing firm SGI for $275 million (£212m) last week, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has pushed out new hybrid flash and software-defined storage platforms specifically designed for small and medium businesses.

The HPE StoreVirtual 3200 is an entry-level storage array that starts at $6,000, while the HPE MSA 2042 hybrid flash platform starts at $10,000. Both of these systems feature data services from migration, to flash tiering, to embedded resiliency, said HPE.

‘Good enough’

“No matter your size, when it comes to today’s digital transformation, ‘good enough’ storage is no longer good enough,” said Bill Philbin, SVP and GM, Storage, Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Data CentreThe StoreVirtual 3200 Storage is a flexible shared storage system built on HPE’s software-defined storage platform. The product provides small and midsized storage customers with a dual-controller array based on 64-bit ARM technology, a new RAID stack and advanced storage data services like snapshots, thin provisioning and replication at a competitive price point.

HPE said that the StoreVirtual 3200 also provides customers with a futureproof and risk-free path for growth through a composable data fabric that spans HPE StoreVirtual Systems and VSA software running on HPE ProLiant servers, HPE hyperconverged appliances, and HPE Synergy.

“By lowering the cost of flash and enabling a composable data fabric across storage systems and hyper-converged appliances, HPE is helping customers get off the disposable technology treadmill and onto storage they can grow with, not out of,” said Philbin.

The MSA 2042 boosts HPE’s flagship entry array with 800 GB of built-in SSD, plus an all-inclusive software suite.

With flash acceleration, automated tiering and data protection features now standard and price-reduced, HPE said that the MSA 2042 delivers up to 60 percent increase in database transactions per second and 80 percent faster application response times with 54 percent cost savings.

HPE StoreVirtual 3200 storage systems are available worldwide, orderable immediately with US street pricing starting at $6,055 (£4,670). HPE MSA 2042 storage systems are available worldwide, orderable immediately with US street pricing starting at $9,877 (£4,663). HPE StoreVirtual Migration Manager available worldwide in Q3 2016, said HPE.
