why would microsoft buy novell and rebrand suse. that would be competing against themselves. no one uses netware anymore except some pharma and other hippa companies. maybe make suse crippleware, which it is close to now imho. red hat might could, but then how is that all absorbed into the company, already with a brand of their own. hhmm perhaps it should just ride itself out. suse was a great distro back in the day. some move on some don't.

Unfortunately Novell is not as thriving as Redhat and others, and their deal with Microsoft is due to run out.

However that isn't the issue. This is a hostile takeover bid. It is the Novell shareholders to whom this takeover will appeal, not the Novell board.

why the fuck would Novell be stupid enough to even Consider this!? They are thriving as a Business.... I can't see Novell Selling up and packing their bags.... They have got too much of a bright future ahead

I agree with your conclusion. Novell had its day with suse and performed poorly. Its time to pass the ball. I would not be surprised to see suse rebranded to Microsoft Linux, GPL and all. It's time for Microsoft to make a bold move. They've been coasting on their success for too long.

If Microsoft or IBM buy Novell then they would have an Identity Management product that actually works. Then they could get rid of ILM or TIM TAM which don't work nearly as well as Novell IDM.
