I supposedly updated my main Laptop PC to windows 7 from Windows Vista about 4 hours after the update I was ready to through the Computer across the room, Windows 7 would be much more useful if it was possible to switch the taskbar back to the same size as in either Windows XP or Windows Vista, I require at times to have 10 or more programs open at the same time, with the extra large Icons used in windows 7 in the taskbar this is not possible, also I had more lockups and crashes in the 4 hours that I had windows 7 installed than in the last month with windows Vista ultimate or Windows XP , I personally feel that if Microsoft had given Vista more time like they did with Windows XP, that also got slated when it was first released for the same reason as people have been slating windows Vista i.e. the lack of hardware support for older hardware, and software , I feel Vista would be the Top OS Windows 7 has the advantage that it is using Vista drivers so people will not have to go out and replace there printers, scanners, act as they will have already have updated there hardware to run Vista, the only good thing I have to say about Windows 7 is the faster start up and longer battery life, I just wish I could get my money back.

Windows 7 might be better than its predecessor, while supporting more of what its predecessor's predecessor did; it remains however time (corporately) to consider your platform options. And if you consider it and find you have no options, this can only be as a result of previous software purchasing decisions; time to rethink strategy. Why? Well (a) cost of exit should be included in IS purchasing decisions; (b) while change might be expensive, so is the upgrade cycle, and; (c) if your competitors change first, they will be the one with a lower cost base supporting their operations, allowing lower cost expansion, increasing profits and/or lowering prices.
